The Department of Medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is the largest academic department on campus and has been affiliated continuously with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA since 1951. We have over 70 full-time faculty members with their academic home at the David Geffen School of Medicine and over 100 voluntary faculty from the local community who teach in our clinics and inpatient settings. Over more than 60 years, our fully ACGME-accredited residency training program has trained hundreds of internists who practice in Southern California and throughout the country. The Department of Medicine has more than 8000 admissions to the inpatient services per year and over 80,000 outpatient visits annually. The Medicine Department is responsible for approximately 150 inpatient beds in Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, including a recently remodeled 8-bed Medical-Respiratory ICU, a 6-bed Coronary Care Unit, 40 Progressive Care Unit beds, a 6 bed Renal Transplant Unit, and an Infusion Clinic. Ambulatory care is provided in a full range of general internal medicine and subspecialty clinics housed in the Primary Care Center and other ambulatory clinic areas. There are approximately 30 clinics focused on internal medicine subspecialty care. Harbor-UCLA is also home to a large biomedical institute where the faculty conduct a full range of research endeavors, from standard bench research, to translational and industry clinical trials, to health services research. Our faculty, fellows, researchers, and residents are committed to the Harbor-UCLA traditions of providing comprehensive and compassionate care to our patients, conducting cutting-edge basic science and clinical research, and promoting excellence in clinical education through our residency and fellowship programs.
